Background information:
Prevalence of diffuse liver disease is increasing globally and is now a worldwide problem.In addition to alcohol abuse or chronic hepatitis, other causes such as metabolic syndrome or liver-related conditions are emerging.
The wide variety of these causes and their impact on the liver require the combination of conventional ultrasound with dedicated techniques to deliver appropriate staging of the patient.

Hepatic steatosis is the most common liver disease, with potential progression to NASH or hepatocellular carcinoma.
Attenuation Imaging (ATI) in combined with real-time ultrasound is one of the non-invasive imaging techniques used in the diagnosis of steatosis.
We will review the use of the ATI technique and its diagnostic performance compared to liver biopsy or MRI PDFF, including the latest updates for grading hepatic steatosis.
