Prof. Tariq Aslam began his medical training at Oxford University and completed his medical retina fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital. His first research doctorate from Oxford University involved clinical trials in ophthalmic surgery, and a further PhD from Heriot-Watt University investigated technology applications in ophthalmology.
He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications (predominantly as lead author) and several patents, and serves as an investigator on multiple commercial studies as well as investigator-led studies. His research has led to a spin-out medical technology company with awards for social impact, which is his ultimate research goal.
Mr. Luke Nicholson is a consultant ophthalmologist and medical retina specialist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he is currently director of the medical retina service. At Moorfields, he has completed multiple research and clinical fellowships in medical retina and uveitis.
Mr. Nicholson is actively involved in research and obtained his MD (Res) from University College London, where he studied the use of ultra-wide field imaging in retinal vascular diseases and its association with neovascularization and retinal vessel oxygenation.
He has published widely on retinal vascular diseases and is the chief investigator for national and international clinical studies.
Dr. Barbara Parolini was born in Verona, Italy, on April 17, 1968. She is a vitreoretinal surgeon who has exercised her practice, mainly in Italy, since 1997.
She graduated from Medical School with laude in 1993 in Italy and obtained the diploma in Ophthalmology with laude in 1997. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at UCSF (San Francisco, USA) and UMDNJ (Newark, USA), focusing on retinal pigment epithelium transplantation in 1994-1995 and 1997-1998, respectively.
Additionally, she served as Director of Clinical Studies for the FDA for the Medjet Company, in Edison USA, in 1997-1998. Her expertise includes complex cases of submacular surgery, diabetic retinopathy, and high myopia, as well as eye reconstruction after trauma.
She is a reviewer for Graefe’s Archives of Ophthalmology, Retina Journal, European Journal of Ophthalmology, Acta Ophthalmologica, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, and member of the following societies: GIVRE, SOI, AIMO, AAO, ASRS. Since 2016, she has been Vice President of the European VitreoRetina Society.
