Mr. Michael Horler, BSc (Hons) MRes FCOptom Michael Horler is a consultant optometrist at Sussex Eye Hospital in Brighton. He specializes in medical retinopathy and is a visiting lecturer for the postgraduate optometry course at the University of Hertfordshire.
Previously, Mr. Horler served as the medical retina lead at Moorfields Eye Hospital and taught undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Auckland.
He has delivered numerous invited lectures and workshops and co-authored a comprehensive suite of OCT training programs for optometrists.
In 2021, Mr. Horler was awarded a fellowship from the College of Optometrists in recognition of his contributions to the profession of optometry.
Mrs. Samantha Mann, MD MRCOph FRCOph Samantha Mann has been a consultant ophthalmologist at St Thomas’ Hospital for 15 years. With a particular interest in Diabetic Eye Screening, she serves as the clinical lead for the South East London Programme, overseeing the care of over 120,000 patients living with diabetes.
The Programme caters to a highly diverse and often underserved population that regularly encounters advanced levels of pathology.
Dedicated to enhancing service quality, Mrs. Samantha Mann contributed to the development of the London OCT scanning protocol for Diabetic Eye Screening Surveillance Pathways. She created the impactful video "Danny’s Story," highlighting the consequences of missing screening appointments through the experience of a young man blinded by diabetes.
Her latest project features a video documenting the experiences of three individuals with diabetes undergoing retinal laser treatment.
Mrs. Samantha Mann also serves as the current president of the British Association of Retinal Screeners.
Prof. Tunde Peto, MD, PhD Tunde Peto is a professor of clinical ophthalmology at Queen’s University Belfast and the clinical lead for Diabetic Eye Screening in Northern Ireland.
She also serves as a consultant ophthalmologist and clinical lead for Diabetic Eye at the Belfast Trust. With extensive experience in diabetic eye screening in the UK since 2002, Prof. Peto is highly regarded for her expertise in teaching and training for diabetic eye disease.
Her international contributions to the field have been recognized with the prestigious Eva Kohner Award.
